The Gomez Family is excited to create, cook and present wonderful food for the people of our community. It seems our lives are engrained in everything to do with food.
David is a fifth child of nine children in his family. He was the one child that loved to cook from an early age. His sisters (including the older ones) use to sit on the couch and wait for him to cook eggs for them when he was only eight years old. He loved to watch his mother make beautiful Mexican dishes and learned much from her. He began working in kitchens when he was only thirteen. He held his first formal job at 15, working in the dietary department of a convalescent hospital. He continued his way up the culinary ladder as he cooked in diners, restaurants and hotels. In 1994 he took his family to New York and attended the Culinary Institute of America. Here he obtained his degree in Culinary Arts. From there it was off to Chico, where he then was chef for La Hacienda, Avanti's and Colusa Casino. David loves studying the history of food and learning how traditional dishes became into being. David is an outstanding teacher and has taught many courses for Butte College and also teaches an elective cooking course for Notre Dame Catholic School. He donates much of his time catering meals for auctions and non-profit organizations.
Kelly grew up in San Antonio, Texas. She was the thrid child of three and the only girl. Kelly was always wanting to be in the kitchen baking. As she became an adult she prided herself on making wonderful treats and pastries for her friends and family. When she met and married David he opened up the world of food to her in so many other ways. Kelly is the administrative side of Roots Catering. She is the initial contact with new clients and enjoys helping people to plan and organize their special event.
As a couple they enjoy working to create new dishes. They have taught their children to appreciate all types of cuisines. On weekends they love cooking together with products found in the Northern California area. They travel as a family and visit farms and markets to taste new foods and meet their creators. Their son David seems to be following in his Dad's footsteps as he always wants to be in the kitchen and can already cook quite a few dishes at the young age of nine.
The Gomez Family invites you to call us at anytime with any culinary or event questions you might have. We would love to help with any fundraisers or school events in our local community and of course catering your special event. We look forward to meeting you soon!
